Tal, absolute name Vilous II, is the second planet from the type-K star Vilous. The planet is the second largest and second densest planet in its system. It is dominated by landmass, with a small, artificial saltwater sea.

Tal is the homeworld of Talkind.

Astronomy[edit | edit source]

Tal's orbit brings it between 123 and just under 122 million kilometres from Vilous. The planet has a moderate axial tilt of 34 degrees, and has no natural satellites.

Civilisation[edit | edit source]

Main article: Talian

Talian civilisation originated on Tal, and appears to be distributed throughout, though the Talian Technological Revolution has concentrated the population into tighter cities and settlements.

In 2700 a census placed the population figure at nearly 4 billion inhabitants.

Structure[edit | edit source]

Tal has a small iron core, forming a lower strength magnetic field than that of Earth's.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Tal is a warm planet, dominated by vast desert and plains. It features just single artificial saltwater sea.

Climate[edit | edit source]

The planet is a warm garden world with temperatures hovering around 29 degrees Celsius (302 degrees Kelvin). The interior of the planet is a harsh range of deserts, steppes, forests, tundra and ice caps. Coastal regions of the planet recieve much milder climates due to moderation effects of the large ocean.

Without a stabilising force like a moon, Tal has a considerably high axial tilt, in turn resulting in more varying seasons throughout the Talian year.

Physical Geography[edit | edit source]

Tal is an all-land planet, harboring only one body of water, ColVilous lake. The vast majority of the planet is covered with hostile forests,

Its crust is primarily composed of sedimentary rocks.

Atmosphere[edit | edit source]

Tal's atmosphere is a carbon-supportive oxygen and nitrogen atmosphere. It is thicker than that of Earth's, but has a lower oxygen content by percentage.

The atmosphere has a thin ozone layer to block out harmful UV rays and radiation from space.

The colour of the sun Vilous colours the sky a muted blue during the day, and provides a rich orange and red colour during sunrise and sunset.

Resources[edit | edit source]

Arable land on Tal is plenty enough to support agricultural practice.

Tal's crust, especially over its deserts, are rich in mineral deposits such as uranium, aluminium, and other metals used for construction. The deserts also contain salt pans, good for seasoning of foods or other products.

The planet's lake can be used to produce deuterium-tritium fusion reactor fuels.

Hazards[edit | edit source]

With a thinner ozone layer, the world's surface is exposed to more radiation than most other planets.

The swathes of desert can be extremely harsh at times, temperatures sometimes exceeding 70° C in the daytime; an ill-equipped traveler stands little chance against possible dehydration, heatstroke and starvation.
