A Terran is a sentient member of Earth civilisation. Terrans are primarily composed of mammalian species, however reptilian and avian derivatives also exist.

History[edit | edit source]

Terran sapients evolved on Earth between 100,000 and 80,000 BCE, and started to develop civilisation around 10,000 years ago through the invention of agriculture.

Pre-spaceflight, terrans divided the land of Earth into various independent states, not typically by species but by ideology.

Species[edit | edit source]

Terrans descended from a diverse set of genetic families. Most are mammalian, though there are avians and reptiles as well.

Canids[edit | edit source]

Canids, canis sapiens, are the sentient descendants of the canidae family. They are sometimes referred to other names such as wolves, coyotes, huskies and dogs in relation to their feral ancestors, although their differences are almost exclusively appearance and colouration, and minimally genetic.

Canids are a furred species. They typically have long snouts protruding from their heads, and triangular shaped ears, through the geometry and orientation of the ears varies from individual to individual. Their fur is often a blend of muted terrestrial colours, however other, more exotic colours can be found not too uncommonly. Tails on canids vary as well, but are mostly bushy and moderate in length.

Felines[edit | edit source]

Felines, felidae sapiens, are the sentient descendants of the felidae family, and are not typically native to any one location. Common appearance breeds include tigers, cheetahs and panthers.

Felines are also a furred species that visually compare to canids, though their fur tends to be more bristly and short, and their snouts are much shorter. Their tails are long and slender, also covered in short fur.

Vulpines[edit | edit source]

Vulpines, vulpes sapiens, known simply as foxes, are the sentient descendants of the vulpes family. Although they look visually similar to canids and are sometimes mistaken for being the same, their genetic makeup is distinct and are a seperate species in their own right.

Apart from slight genetic differences, a slightly narrower snout, fluffier tails, and fur colour that are typically terrestrial-coloured, it can be difficult to distinguish them from canids.

Lizards[edit | edit source]

Lizards, draconem sapiens, are the sentient descendants of the draconem family. They are also sometimes referred to as dragons, though that term does not encompass all members. They are native to warm climates.

Their skin lacks fur, but unlike the skin of canids or felines, it is slightly thicker and might be covered in thin scales. They tend to have a long head, canid-like, though the shape varies more. Some members of the species have wings, though most are redundant and are unable to achieve lift.

Other species[edit | edit source]

A variety of other terran species also exist, though not as common as the other five.

  • Deer, cervidae sapien, descendents of the cervine family. Often brownish terrestrial colours, and with hooved fingers and toes, and their bodies bear short but smooth fur. Males tend to have long antlers, though there are some excemptions.
  • Mustelids,, mustelidae sapien, descendents of the mustelid family, including weasels and otters. They typically slender in build, coloured in darker terrestrial colours with light patches on their undersides. Their tails are heavy to facilitate swimming and may or may not have webbed fingers and toes.
  • Humans, homo sapien, the last descendants of the hominidae genus. Their skin lacks fur, only limited strands, and their hair can only be found in localised patches, such as on the top of the head, and have no tail. They are few and far between and are rarely seen outside the Sol system.
  • Hyenas, hyanidae sapien, descendents of hyenas, often mistaken for canids. Generally yellowish-brown coloured, and mostly native to hotter climates. They are often mistaken for being members of the canid species.
