A Monoship is an artificial, sentient spaceship with a highly advanced, powerful array of weapons at their disposal. Their primary energy source involves consuming stars. Monoships are rarely spotted by members of civilisation, but the few that have have described aggressive behaviour from them.

One known Monoship is Revenant, who appears to act very passively.

Origin[edit | edit source]

Monoships were built eons before the advent of Terran, Ikimo, or Vilousian civilisation by an unknown spacefaring race. The purpose of them exactly is also unknown: It is speculated they have been produced to defend the Milky Way galaxy against an unknown threat.

Armament[edit | edit source]

Monoships are the most powerful weapon known in the Milky Way galaxy. They possess arrays of guns and defenses capable of tracking and destroying any size of ship. Many of the smaller armaments are “pop-out”, meaning they are retracted to be level with the surface of the ship to hide away when not needed, and are extended to fire when required.

Superheavy Railguns[edit | edit source]

A Monoship carries some ten 3.5km long railguns that can destroy even the largest ships in one hit. The railguns accelerate 10 metre, 16,000 metric tonne shells to 4kms-1, capable of decimating shields and tearing through multiple opponent ships. They, however, use a massive amount of energy, and Monoships only selectively fire them to save energy.

Microwave Lasers[edit | edit source]

Monoships possess pairs of microwave superlasers capable of sweeping and cutting through enemy ships and armour. Estimated power of individual lasers range from 1 to 10 terawatts.

Anti-Ship Batteries[edit | edit source]

On the surface of a Monoship’s armour are matrices of anti-ship batteries that can punch fatal holes through enemy armour. Should the superheavy railguns be deemed too powerful, the batteries will be used instead.

Monoship anti-ship batteries use projectiles that appear to be massive compressed bundles of photons. These projectiles, while travelling at a velocity much lower than that of light’s, are highly energetic and powerful, somewhat reminiscent of the behaviour of plasma.

Flak Arrays[edit | edit source]

Housed and hidden underneath the thick armour of a Monoship are multitudes of “pop-up” armaments. These are designed to support a Monoship’s drone fleet as they fire swathes of projectiles into squadrons of smaller enemy fighters and ships.

Antimatter Monoship Cannon[edit | edit source]

Central to their armament is a massive antimatter cannon which stretches along their lengths. Upon activation, the entire Monoship body opens up, and the gun is extended in preparation to fire. Rather than fire a single projectile, the cannon fires a stream of antimatter towards the target, powerful enough to destroy planets and even some stars.

The firing of the cannon nearly completely drains the Monoship’s energy reserves, so no other weapons are capable of firing during the time, and typically after the cannon has been fired.

Complement[edit | edit source]

To accompany their direct point defenses, Monoships are also capable of swiftly producing a multitude of smaller ships and fighters through the use of rapid fabricators. It is unknown how these fabricators function, as they can produce hardware faster than any other rapid fabrication system known to civilisation.

Interceptors[edit | edit source]

Monoship interceptors are similar to interceptors from civilisation, in that they are designed to engage in one-on-one combat with other craft of similar function, and to perform strafing runs against larger ships. Monoships are known to fabricate interceptors at a rate of one every ten minutes.

Destroyers[edit | edit source]

Monoship destroyers are ships that are approximately 500m in length, and can fire barrages of ordnance at enemy targets. It is unknown how long it takes for an Monoship to fabricate a Monoship destroyer as they have never been spotted fabricating one.

Subsistence[edit | edit source]

A Monoship gathers its energy from stars. When consuming a star, the Monoship opens up as if it were to fire its main cannon, but instead flies past the star, brushing against its chromosphere, taking a portion of its energy and mass by absorbing the star through its main cannon barrel. The process is repeated until the star is no longer able to perform hydrogen fusion reactions.

If the star develops into a red giant, the Monoship will harvest materials such as carbon or iron from the dying star until all that is left is the white dwarf remnant. If the star develops into a supernova, the Monoship is strong enough to withstand the blast, and they harvest the energy of the supernova into powering the ship's systems. Heavier elements are also harvested from the remaining supernova.

The energy capacity of a Monoship is unknown, though it is estimated at tens of supernovae worth of energy in order to meet the energy demands of the Monoship main cannon.

Death[edit | edit source]

Upon being destroyed, a Monoship releases all stored energy; the death of a Monoship also means any stored matter and antimatter fuel can no longer be contained, causing them to annihilate each other in an explosion of a yield equivalent to several supernovae. This has devastating effects on the local area of the system, and poses a risk to civilisation.
